You may have seen a few weeks ago that I did a round up post of my top foundations for flawless skin and sitting right at the forefront is the Estee Lauder Double Wear. I decided to give Double Wear a try at the start of 2017 after casually strolling by (we never really do just ‘casually’ stroll by do we?) the beauty counter at Sydney Airport waiting for my flight to Hong Kong. After just five minutes of shade matching and realizing how damn affordable this foundation actually was (especially at Duty Free prices) – I was sold.
My number one rule is to never wear make up on long flights and this was no exception so the excitement of trying on Double Wear Stay in Place Foundation had to wait until I landed. It sure didn’t disappoint – long-lasting with a matte finish that doesn’t dry my skin out or make me feel like cake face Barbie. Double thumbs up from me. There’s foundation out there that makes you look like you’ve smeared war paint on and then there’s foundation that looks like, well – skin
So now Estee Lauder have released the lighter and fresher sibling – Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Foundation (let’s just abbreviate this to Double Wear Nude for the remainder of this post ha!). I received mine just as we were heading into the middle of summer. A lighter formulation is always welcome when you’re sweating balls and having pregnant hot flashes throughout the day. Most of the dewy finish foundations I’ve tried in the past lose their impact throughout the day so I was interested to see how long lasting the Double Wear Nude would be.
With all the rage on achieving the effortless no makeup, makeup look slash I woke up like this these days meant I had to try this formula to see for myself. Was it truly the weightless summer formula with total coverage minus the melting face of foundation? Read on.
My first impression when I poured the formula out onto the back of my hand was that the consistency was considerably thinner than the Stay in Place. Word of caution, whilst the original Double Wear formula gradually trickles out of its bottle, the Double Wear Nude won’t so test it out beforehand on a beauty blender to get a feel for it. Oh and don’t forget to shake it up well before you use.
I usually use only a single layer of Double Wear to cover all the unevenness in my skin without the need to build up the coverage. Naturally I was concerned at how well the Double Wear Nude was going to fair – given that I prefer a full coverage and the formulation is quite thinner compared to the original.
It didn’t take me long to have everything blended and sitting perfectly weightless on my skin. It’s ever so slightly lighter in its coverage that I needed a little concealer to help hide the acne scars but it was only a minimal touch up that I needed.
Key Features:
- Weightless formula means you can effortlessly achieve the ‘no makeup, makeup look’
- It’s oil-free but won’t dry out your skin with the added inclusion of hyaluronic acid for hydration
- Contains SPF25 and antioxidants to protect against sun damage
- It’s light but will last you 24 hours
- Won’t leave you with a cake face feeling as the foundation pigments have been wrapped in a flexible polymer
- It has sugar-kelp extract to control “the shine” you get from dewy formulas
When I first blended the Double Wear Nude I was a little concerned at how dewy it left my face. After a few minutes it surprisingly settled in a semi-matte finish on my skin when I returned from washing my blender from the bathroom. I’ve always found it so ironic how much product we need these days to achieve the supposed natural look. I can safely say that I’m comfortable enough these days to leave the house with just a single layer of Double Wear Nude, a little bronzer and highlight and of course – my brows done.
Who Should Buy the Double Wear Nude?
- Anyone wanting to achieve a fresh faced look without it being obvious that you’ve got makeup on
- Those who like a dewy finish to their makeup look and want something lighter for summer
- Women with maturing skin as the dewy finish won’t accentuate any creases or crow’s feet (no one wants that…amirite?)
- Anyone who struggles with the OG Double Wear formula ie. slightly too heavy for daily use.

If you need to compare the two then I’ve made your life easier and compiled the below and found the shade match chart for you so that you can find your equivalent in the Double Wear Nude formula.
