MBFWA17 Day One: Alice McCall Resort 17/18

I still remember receiving a Facebook invitation to one of her sample sales and being ecstatic that I could finally get my hands on some of her pieces. This was eight years ago. Till this day, Alice McCall is still one of my favourite Australian designers and still one of our greatest exports. We’ve seen emerging Australian designers come and go throughout the years but Alice has been growing her eponymous name from strength to strength whilst holding true to her classic feminine silhouettes, quirky but still girly aesthetic and incredibly tactile designs.

The inspiration behind the Resort 17/18 collection stems from marrying the conventional rocker babe who’s ventured into her high society mom’s closet. Think metallic brocades, intricate lace and flocked tulle on accentuated shoulders and amplified girlish silhouettes that make your legs look like Karlie Kloss’ (wishing). Unkempt eye make up and layers upon layers of mascara was the inspiration behind the beauty look to give it a messy and unruly vibe – almost like you’d gone out the night before and woke up with the same face. Individuality was the key message for the season and the movement in the collection was mirrored by the hair direction. Minimal product but still contained movement around the crown of the head to give a cool but beautiful look to move with the textures in symbiosis.
