What the Cool Kids Wear to Work

Whilst I no longer hold a steady 9 to 5, that doesn’t mean I don’t like to dress up for certain occasions and there are days where I’ll wake up and want to channel my inner #GirlBoss. We spend over 50% of our week at work and as bad as that is to hear (or read), our wardrobe doesn’t have to reflect such misery. Grana Worsted Wool

Grana’s new worsted wool range is the perfect addition to your workwear wardrobe – functional, comfortable and versatile. Don’t worry; you’re not wearing your grandmother’s slacks. The drawstring pants and the culottes both scream work appropriate but also look relaxed enough to wear outside of the office.

What’s worsted wool you ask? I asked the same question and essentially it’s wool minus those fluffy wooly fibres you normally get with your knits. The twisting process in manufacturing removes the natural texture and you’re left with an incredible smooth, durable and lightweight fabric. The colors in the range make mixing and matching incredibly easy and lets face it, we want to be able to dress ourselves with our eyes closed and still look amazing because facing the weekly grind is bad enough.

Here are my top tips on how to make your everyday work looks work for you.

Tip 1: Inject Colour into your Look

Wearing all black is safe and probably the reason why you’re unmotivated in your job because you perpetually look like you’re about to attend a funeral. Perhaps you are mourning the loss of your soul to the corporate world but I’ve personally found that adding colours to your look can drastically change you both sartorially and emotionally.

I’ve chosen green because it always gives me a sense of calmness and anything that takes my mind away from the bottomless pit of work awaiting my attention is a bonus. Take baby steps and start by wearing a bold pair of shoes or just an accessory that pops.

Tip 2: Make a Statement with your Outerwear

Very often you’ll find that the easy answer to solve your sartorial woes is to have a statement jacket that gives you an incredible surge in confidence and poise. I’ve always invested in loud outerwear to use when I need to bring life into my looks and when you’re in the workplace with a hundred others dressed in monochrome, sometimes all you need is a statement jacket to bring you out of the mundane.

Tip 3: Plan for Sneakers & Stilettos

Having an outfit that you can pair with both Stan Smiths and Louboutins can be the savior to both your feet and street cred. So when you’re staring at your wardrobe and trying to piece together an acceptable look; ask yourself whether you can wear sneakers to work and stilettos during and after work. Thankfully the cuts of the tapered ankle pants and the culottes from the worsted wool range are perfect for both.

your outfits are always so colorful and mix of prints & colors. I am absolutely sure that if I had a job where you can wear something different, I would go with this outfit, sadly in our office, we can wear only monochrome style ;(

Girl! I feel you! I stay at home with my littles and many days I’m in yoga pants all day so I try to make a point to think through my look anytime I leave the house! I’ve yet to try Grana’s new worsted wool range however, I’m a big fan of Grana and love in their silk! Although, I love Grana I’m not a wool fan as it makes me incredibly itchy but I wonder with the process you described above, does that remove that itchy feeling too? If so, I cannot wait to get my hands on some of it! Helen, you look phenomenal and I’m always inspired by the way you pair color together! Layering and outerwear ALWAYS make me feel so put together and like I can take on the world! I’m such a fan on your sandals too and the heel height is perfect! I’ve been really loving that style lately! Hope you have a great start to the week!

    • Lady you definitely need to try their worsted wool because there is absolutely ZERO itch factor in it!!

These trousers are so chic and love the cut of them. They totally can be worn to the office and also on casual Sundays with some kicks like you said. Thanks for explaining “worsted wool” to us and that makes such a difference when you wear certain fabrics – you definitely don’t want them to pile or pull. It’s great to know that Grana invests in quality fabrics and materials. I have yet to try any Grana pieces but keep hearing about their amazing silk, Turkish jeans, and now their wool collection. Definitely a brand worth looking into. Love your tips on dressing for the workplace and your statement jackets always have me drooling! xoxo, Christine

omg this just reminds me how lucky I am to be working at a place that doesn’t follow strict (and boring) clothing requirements. I would feel so restricted if I had to show up to work everyday in a dress shirt and black trousers! I love how fun you made this outfit, and how appropriate it is. Also I’ve actually been hearing about Grana all over instagram and a few blog’s I’ve read. They just sound like they make some quality clothes and I’ve been meaning to check them out for a really long time. You just reminded me to take a look into them!

  • Oh perfect timing! I’ve been looking for some new work pants and Grana’s worsted wool collection sounds like it’s worth checking out. The drawstring pants and the culottes are just so fun, but still so work appropriate. I love the tips that you added here for styling a work wear outfit as well. I never used to like green, but now that you mention it, I think I would like to try incorporating more emerald into my work attire. A statement jacket like yours obviously is a great addition as well.

Haha you’re the coolest kid at work for sure hun! I had no idea what worsted wool was either, but thanks for informing me of yet another material I’d like to try on and experience the softness and comfort on. As for adding color, I’m all with you! It brightens up any outfit and makes fashion so much more fun. Green is one of my favourite colors too and I tend to go with olive green most of the times. Always have, always will, no matter what’s trending. I do add bolder colors too to make that statement and love to play around with different styles, but one thing I stay true to are my sneakers, so you won’t see me wearing stilettos anytime soon, haha.

  • Great tips! When I worked a corporate job I always pushed the envelope as far as I could LOL. I mean you gotta know your environment – in a more creative job you can have more fun. I’m all for wool in cooler weather. Growing up it was all so itchy but these days it can be lightweight and comfortable. Love these pieces on you! And I’m slightly obsessed with your sandals BTW.
