Say it with me – Jean Paul Gaultier. What pops into your mind in the instant you here this name? Is it Madonna’s infamous cone-shaped bra? Perhaps it’s the seven-year tenure he held as the head designer for fashion powerhouse Hermès? Or maybe those suggestive torso-shaped bottles from his successful fragrance line. It would be all of the above for me.
We’ve all seen an array of designer collaborations emerge these last few years with high street labels and Target has certainly earned numerous notches on their belt with collections released by Dion Lee, Stella McCartney and Roberto Cavalli to name a few. It’s with high anticipation that we await the collection due to hit Australian stores on the 10th of March designed by quirky and avant-garde haute couture designer Jean Paul Gaultier for Target. The collection encapsulates the designer’s unique style and will have something for everybody including pieces for women, men, children and even homewares.
“Every time I’ve been to Australia I’ve been impressed by the laid-back, unstuffy confidence that Australians display with their fashion – it resonates with my design philosophy and has such synergy with my own approach to fashion and style,” says Gaultier. Amen to that.
The collection will officially debut at the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival on March 9th.
“I have looked for inspiration in many ways but one of the constants is the street and what people are wearing. I believe in fashion that you can wear every-day not just on a catwalk – which is really what Target stands for at its core – which made it the right retail partner for me to choose to bring this range to market in Australia.”
I’ve been lucky enough to nab two pieces from the collection to style, as I would see fit. Here they are – the blush pink biker vest and tattoo shirt. Who else is
excited ecstatic about this?
