I’ve been raving on about going to the races these last few weeks that I’m fairly sure my work colleagues are rather sick of hearing me babble on about my thoughts on fashion at the races. I’ve always not been one to confirm so I decided to make it my mission this year to NOT garb myself in floral dresses or anything that resembles a pinafore.
In terms of headpieces – I thoroughly dislike having anything hang in front of my face – so the oversized veiled and feathered headpieces were out of the question for me. I’m also not a fan of the standard conception that ‘the bigger the better’. Yes – you get ‘noticed’ (heck, you’ll probably pick up HBO with your piece) but if you choose your headpiece solely on its size and how much attention you’ll garner from it; without taking into account your face shape and the rest of your outfit – I guarantee you that when you go back through your photos you’ll think to yourself – something just isn’t right.
Here are some snaps from the Star Epsom Race Day last weekend where I chose to wear a full-length Zimmermann jumpsuit with a stunningly edgy piece from the talented Suzy O’Rourke (check out her stuff – it’s amazing). My hair was styled by the lovely Dawne from Toni&Guy who had the brilliant idea of giving me a raw but edgy look through side plaits and a high ponytail.
I’ve also played the role of photographer and snapped up a few of my favorite headpieces that I saw on the day. I’m now planning my next look for the Moët & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day at Royal Randwick. I’m looking forward to the Chandon Pop-Up Bar, live DJ’s and visiting the Clinique Pamper Lounge.
