MBFWA Preparation & Tips

With fashion week fast approaching – I’ve found myself foraging through the deepest, darkest depths of my wardrobe to try and plan my entire weeks’ worth of looks. I’ve found myself gravitating towards simple dresses of late, there are just so many ways to style modest dresses to make your look effortlessly chic.

My first look is this silver pleated number, which you can find here on Lyst – the selection on there is mammoth. Depending on the occasion this dress can be styled down with a pair of Superstars and 90s patchwork denim jacket or styled up with a pair of strappy heels and biker leather jacket. I won’t be afforded the luxury of a wardrobe change throughout the day so factoring outfit versatility is crucial to say the least.

I’ve decided to go with a slightly mismatched colour palette on the second look – a mauve pink boxy dress coupled with a long navy trench. My style has always been about disrupting the norm and this may be a little over the top for the day (or maybe not) but it’ll transition beautifully for an evening ensemble.

So here is my list of essentials for the week and tips that I will be sticking to religiously:
• A pair of ballet flats to change in between rushing from location to location – especially the case when your outfit calls for spectacularly uncomfortable heels.
• A portable charger because Snapchat not only chews through your data but your battery life.
Business cards – because you never know who you’ll meet at these events.
• My trusty 5D MKII and 35mm + 50mm lens as well as MacBook to work between shows.

I think my favourite part of fashion week is checking out the streetstyle photography as it brings together such an assortment of personalities. This year will be my first year attending fashion week and to say I’m excited and anxious is an understatement.
